Using Chat GPT for Business

With all the talk about Chat GPT recently, you’re probably wondering about the best ways to use it for your business. AI tools can be helpful if you know the best ways to use them to save yourself time. In this article, I’m going over some ways you could make use of this new tool and some ways that you shouldn’t.

Saving Time with Chat GPT

It might be tempting to write entire articles using Chat GPT, but it won’t save you time in the long run. Tools like Chat GPT are better utilized for brainstorming and outlining. You want to minimize the chances that Chat GPT will give you text full of plagiarism, inaccuracies, and AI-hallucinations.

You can tell Chat GPT how to write your suggestions – tone, style, desired audience information, and more. This can make it easier for you to edit Chat GPT’s responses for you to use. There are lots of tips for prompting Chat GPT in ways that will return what you need1.

Some things you might have Chat GPT do:

  • Brainstorming Blog Ideas
  • Outlining Blog Articles
  • Short Social Media Posts
  • Short Text Descriptions – like image descriptions

Wasting Time with Chat GPT

Before you get Chat GPT to write your next blog, consider that Chat GPT is prone to plagiarism, inaccuracies, and hallucinating – completely making up information and sources. If it takes you 3 hours to put together your sources, write your blog, and finish it up, but it takes you at least that long to verify all the facts, figures, and sources in the article that Chat GPT wrote for you, then you’re not saving any time.

If you’re not checking the text that Chat GPT gives you, you run the risk of having false, misleading, or offensive text in your blog. As a business, you can’t afford the risk of publishing information that’s wrong and doesn’t meet the needs of your audience. This would be more costly than just wasting the time it takes to verify entire blog articles.

Conclusion

AI tools are getting better all the time, and it’s also becoming clearer about what the strengths and weaknesses are for applying it. There are numerous examples2,3 of Chat GPT and similar tools making up information and creating offensive text when they are used without regard for the application. It’s important that you consider the risk before choosing to use these tools for your business.

It doesn’t mean that you can’t use them to help you save time and do more for your business. It just means that you need to think critically about how you do it and do it in a way that will actually save you time and not unnecessarily increase your risk.
