May 2023 Holidays
May really wants to be summer here in North America, and many of the month-long celebrations are about getting out and moving. May is Global Employee Health & Fitness Month, National Bike Month, and National Water Safety Month. For businesses that promote activity and healthy living, May has an abundance of topics to choose from. May is also National Mental Health Awareness Month. So, if your business is centered around mental health or self-care, there is a great opportunity for you this month.
May is also National Inventors Month. This is a chance for businesses in any industry to highlight the inventors that made their industry what it is today. It gives your business a chance to connect with the historical figures who made what you do possible.
May is Building Safety Month, National Electrical Safety Month, and Preservation Month. Preservation Month focusses on promoting local history and historic preservation. If your business works with buildings, on-site safety, or local history, there are some great topics for you to use.

Here are some activities that will be happening in May
- May is National Inventor’s Month.
What inventions does your business rely on? Have you invented something yourself? April is meant to celebrate inventors for their contributions to our lives, and this gives you a chance to blog about inventions in your industry.
- May is full of sporting events.
In addition to the Indianapolis 500, there are tournament games in the NHL (hockey), Rivalry Week in MLS (soccer), the French Tennis Open begins, the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for May 6th, and the Preakness is scheduled for May 20th. For many businesses, sports events can be a big draw this time of year, so make sure your customers know to come enjoy the festivities.
- May is Gifts from the Garden Month and is full of opportunities to get planting and celebrating nature.
In addition to that month long celebration, National Public Gardens Week is May 12-21, 2023, National Garden Meditation Day is May 3, National Love a Tree Day is May 16, and May 29 is Learn About Composting Day. For gardeners, landscapers, and arborists, there is much to blog about and celebrate in May.
